Acute illness, rice & beans, 850 patients
Our medical team treated patients in 4 Villages SE of Port au Prince. We saw people with acute illnesses like Pneumonia, Typhoid and Malaria. During those days we treated a 3-year old with Typhoid and could not gain IV access (he was too dehydrated). This child was treated with oral antibiotics instead of the IV form but he did recover 4 weeks after we left. We sorted and distributed a 2-week supply of rice and beans to hundreds of families, serving over 850 medical patients on this 7-day stay in the country.
